Brilliant Bridget Christie and Comedy Friends Show Raises £9,565
Thanks to all who came to the Leicester Square Theatre for our comedy night, curated and headlined by the legendary Bridget Christie. Together, you have raised an astonishing £9,565.46, smashing our target, and enabling the charity to work with more women, children, mothers, and babies in rural, remote communities.
The money raised came from on the night donations and proceeds from ticket sales. Thanks to all who came, gave, and enjoyed a night of hysterical live comedy for a good cause.
The support given will enable us to further our life-changing, life-saving impacts in countries including Ethiopia. Here we are starting a new project to scale-up the use of community health groups to support women through pregnancy and childbirth.
Our new project, working with JSI, Amref Health Africa and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will train project and regional government teams to implement groups nationwide into the National Health Extension Programme.
Funds raised will also go towards projects in Malawi, supporting women with their sexual and reproductive health, through radio programming and listening clubs in their local groups.
A massive thanks to Bridget Christie for performing and curating the line-up of excellent comedians together. We thank them all for their time, incredible jokes, and witty stories. They included the ventriloquist Nina Conti, Felicity Ward, Jessica Fostekew, Celya AB and the MC, Amy Annette.
Speaking from Women and Children First were Chief Executive Beth Silver and Ambassador and comedian Vix Leyton, sharing inspirational stories and encouraging amazing support.
Bridget Christie, speaking on Instagram after the show, said, “A million thanks to my beautiful hilarious friends (all at the absolute tops of their games - what a gig), who gave their time to join me in helping to raise money and awareness for Women and Children First, who are doing great work getting women and children the support they need.
“Also massive thanks to you the audience for selling this mother out. They reached their target because of you. Big love from me.”
Felicity Ward, writing on Instagram, added, “It was the best fun show”, while Jessica Fostekew agreed, “I did the most amazing gig, which Bridget Christie booked to help raise nearly £10k for this incred organisation.”
Here’s some photos from the evening, thanks to the wonderful Sam Lane photography, who donated her time for free (@samlanephotography).
WeGotTickets also offered fantastic support in spreading the word about the show.
The comedy show will be back in 2024. To be first to know more about the date and the comedians taking part, sign up to our newsletter - where you’ll also get great stories about how the charity is empowering and supporting more women and children in rural communities.
